David McAtee was a Louisville, Kentucky man who was shot and killed by police during a protest on Monday morning. Although many have posted about him on social media, it is unclear why McAtee’s murder has not garnered more attention.

McAtee was the owner of YaYa’s BBQ, a popular eatery in Louisville’s West End. He was 53 years old and he often fed local police officers for free, according to CNN. McAtee dreamed of turning YaYa’s into a larger restaurant.

When National Guard troops broke up protesters across the street from YaYa’s, McAtee opened fire and was quickly shot and killed by police. Security footage was released on Tuesday that appeared to show cops harassing McAtee and his family with tear gas before McAtee opened fire.

The incident is still being investigated by local and state authorities. The officer involved in McAtee’s death, Katie Crews, was placed on administrative leave but has not been charged.
