Joe Biden’s “You Ain’t Black” Comment Was Very Cringey

In recent days, presidential candidate Joe Biden has faced widespread backlash around an interview on The Breakfast Club that was released on May 22.

In that interview, Charlamagne asked Biden several questions about how the candidate’s policies would help Black communities fight institutional racism, what he’s doing to get the black vote and why he didn’t acknowledge that his crime bill was harmful to the African-American community.

After a somewhat tense 18-minute interview, Biden signed off by saying, “if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or for Trump, then you ain’t Black.”

Charlamagne quickly cut him off.

“It doesn’t have anything to do with Trump,” he said. “It has to do with the fact that I want something for my community.”

Biden apologized shortly after.

“I shouldn’t have been such a wise guy,” he said. “No one should have to vote for any party based on their race or religion or background.”

Two days later, Charlamagne appeared on MSNBC to talk about the comment.

“The best apology is actually a Black agenda,” he said.
