Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael have been arrested and charged with the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. Their arrests come after a wave of community outrage, as people call for action to be taken.

On Thursday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations announced that suspects Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son Travis McMichael, 34, were arrested for the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year old black man.

The two men were charged with murder and aggravated assault after a video surfaced of the men chasing down Arbery in a pickup truck while he was jogging through a Georgia neighborhood. The video depicts a modern-day lynching.

In the graphic video, Arbery runs towards the McMichaels’ pickup track that had been stalking him. Arbery appears to fight back as the men approach him with guns but soon after, he was shot and killed by Travis McMichael.

The two suspects were booked at Glynn County Jail in Georgia. Their arrests come after people on social media demanded justice after the video of the murder surfaced earlier this week, even though the murder took place on February 23rd.

Supporters organized a virtual event, #irunwithmaud today in honor of Arbery’s 26th birthday. The event encourages people to run 2.23 miles in Arbery’s honor.
