Actor Lakeith Stanfield, best known for his role in FX’s Atlanta, was trending on social media late last night and early this morning after he posted a series of cryptic videos on Instagram that showed the actor seemingly mixing alcohol with his medication.
The medication used in the video appeared to be carvedilol, which is used to treat high blood pressure but can lower blood pressure down to dangerous levels when mixed with alcohol. The captions that accompanied his posts were equally worrisome and one read, “I like to be by myself because I can hurt myself and no one tells me to stop or fake they care.”

Stanfield is one of Hollywood’s most sought after young actors and is widely known for his role as Darius in Atlanta but has also appeared in a slew of critically acclaimed films including Get Out, Sorry to Bother You, Knives Out, Straight Outta Compton and Short Term 12. He will star alongside his Get Out co-star Daniel Kaluuya in the upcoming biographical drama Judas and the Black Messiah.
After he posted the video, Stanfield’s followers immediately worried that the actor could be a suicide risk. Many on Instagram and Twitter asked whether someone was able to check on the actor and tagged some of his co-stars and directors he’s worked with like Donald Glover and Jordan Peele. Comedian Patton Oswald expressed his concern on Twitter and asked if there was anyone who directly knew Stanfield and could reach out and see if he needed help.
Just got confirmation Lakeith is okay. Sorry if I overreacted. Okay getting off Twitter for awhile. Text or DM someone you haven’t texted or DM’ed in awhile and tell them a cool memory you have about them. Good night.

Early this morning, the PR firm that represents Stanfield posted on Twitter saying that the actor was safe. Oswalt also received confirmation that Stanfield was fine and apologized if it seemed like he overreacted.
Not long after, Stanfield posted on Instagram saying that he was ok and not harming himself and that he appreciated the concern for his well-being.
