The man who filmed the murder of Ahmaud Arbery that went viral earlier this month has been arrested. The video he took showed a driver following Arbery as he jogged down a street before he encountered two men with guns.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement on Thursday that they have arrested William “Roddie” Bryan Jr., 50, on charges of felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment. His arrest comes a few weeks after two other men, George McMichael and Travis McMichael, were charged.
Kevin Gough, an attorney representing Bryan, told NBC News that Bryan was in his yard when he saw Arbery running down the street being pursued by a white pickup truck. Gough said that Bryan followed Arbery because he wanted a photo of him.
Bryan and the McMichaels have admitted that there were a number of break-ins into the house that was under construction and that Arbery was accused of burglarizing. Video surveillance from the site showed several curious passerby looking inside the construction site, but only Arbery was pursued and killed as a result.
Bryan will be booked in the Glynn County Jail.
