Last week, writer Amy Berg  posed a simple choice to her followers on Twitter: out of four famous Chrises in Hollywood- Pratt, Pine, Hemsworth, and Evans- “one would have to go.” The post quickly went viral as people chose, overwhelmingly, to let Chris Pratt go.

This landslide response came after speculation around  Pratt’s political beliefs. Some pointed out that he declined an invitation to participate in an Avengers-themed fundraiser for Democratic VP nominee Kamala Harris. In addition,  he also attends a church dubbed “famously anti-LGBTQ” by Ellen Page in 2019, which raised questions about whether he supported the LGBTQ community.

Pratt’s  Marvel Cinematic Universe co-stars have been quick to defend him, and he received support from Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., and Zoe Saldana, among others. Downey Jr. went all out with an instagram post and a caption that defended Pratt as a “real Christian who lives by principle.”

Others pointed out that the way people have come to Pratt’s defense seemed hypocritical. One user noted that Brie Larson received a barrage of death threats and sexist trolling after she advocated for diversity in Hollywood. Other actors who have faced incredible harassment include Zendaya for playing a character who was originally white, Anthony Mackie for being named the new Captain America, and Tessa Thompson for being an actor of color who spoke out about diversity in the workplace.

The conversations about Pratt’s politics quickly intensified and some claimed, without hard evidence, that he was a Trump supporter. Pratt has not posted on social media since the accusations began and he has not directly addressed any of the allegations.
