He confronted a man who drove into a crowd.

On Saturday, Garrett Foster, 28, was shot and killed in downtown Austin, Texas during a Black Lives Matter protest.

Foster was carrying an AK-47 and approached the driver’s side of a vehicle as it drove into a crowd of protesters.

The man inside the car fired at Foster, and it is not clear whether Foster ever fired his own weapon.

“This was intentional. It was aggressive and he accelerated into a crowd of protesters,” said witness James Sasinowski. “He could have waited for us to pass or he could have gone slowly. We would have allowed him to go through.”

Officers were called to the scene and attempted to resuscitate Foster. Foster passed away later at a local hospital.

An autopsy of his death will be conducted as the police investigation continues.

The driver of the vehicle was questioned, and his car and handgun were confiscated for evidence. Another individual who shot at the car was also questioned. The two suspects had concealed carrying licenses and were released on Monday.

Foster’s fiancé, Whitney Mitchell, is left to mourn his death.
