Italy’s death toll exceeded China’s this week, with nearly 5,000 deaths compared to China’s 3,245. The Italian region of Lombardy, where the majority of that country’s deaths have been recorded, announced stricter measures including a ban on all outdoor activity. Meanwhile, Spain’s death toll exceeded 1,000 this week and Madrid’s Mayor predicted that 80 percent of the capital city’s population will become infected with COVID-19. On Saturday, former president of Real Madrid Lorenzo Sanz, 76, became the most high-profile person in that country to die from the virus.
… while New York City became the epicenter of the pandemic in the U.S., with 5% of the world’s total confirmed cases
As testing sites increased exponentially, confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New York City skyrocketed to 9,000, compared to just a few hundred last week. Starting Sunday, New York state governor Andrew Cuomo said that 100 percent of non-essential workers will be mandated to stay home.
Economic stabilization package will hover around $1.3-1.4 trillion
On Saturday, the White House said it will approve an economic relief package that will range between $1.3-1.4 trillion, or 10 percent of the country’s GDP. The White House also plans to send every American a check for $1,000 within three weeks.

Former Mayor of Tallahassee Andrew Gillum in a hotel with passed out male escort
Former Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum was found in a Miami hotel room alongside a passed-out male escort and what appeared to be meth. The politician, who is a prominent figure in that state’s Democratic Party, apologized and said he would seek help for his alcohol addiction. According to a survey by the Tampa Bay Times, few Florida residents believe Gillum’s career will bounce back from the event.
