Trina, a rapper who first rose to fame in the hip-hop scene of the late 90s, is facing backlash after she criticized protests and looting in her hometown of Miami.

The “Love and Hip Hop Miami” reality star voiced her support for imposing a 12-hour curfew to prevent social disruption in the streets of Miami. She then called the people rioting “animals” in a conversation on “The Trick N Trina Morning Show” as her co-host, rapper Trick Daddy, questioned her opinion.

“Keep everybody off the streets, these animals off the streets, that are running around in Miami-Dade County acting like they have escaped from the zoo.” She continued, “Lock them up at 5 pm, so the streets can be nice and clean, that’s how I feel”.

The co-hosts argued back and forth on their differing opinions of the riots. Trick Daddy pushed back against the city-wide curfew being imposed because of the effect it could have on the working-class residents of Miami.

Many took Trina’s comments as being disparaging against black people and Twitter erupted with responses.

Trina issued an apology on her morning show and explained that her comments were not meant towards black people and the rapper expressed her allegiance to the black community.
