Last month, a man attacked Federal Judge Esther Salas’ New Jersey home, killing her son and severely injuring her husband. On Monday, Salas broke her two-week silence in a YouTube video in her first public statement since the shooting.
In the emotional nine minute long video, Salas shared her son’s final moments and called for greater privacy protection for judges.
Salas said that the shooting happened after a celebration of her son Daniel Anderl’s 20th birthday. She also revealed that Daniel courageously protected his father and took a bullet to the chest after the attack on their North Brunswick home by gunman Roy Hollander, who was posing as a FedEx employee.
“While my husband is still in the hospital recovering from multiple surgeries, we are living every parent’s worst nightmare- making preparations to bury our only child, Daniel,” Salas said.
The reason the murder was carried out, Salas concluded, was because her personal information was too accessible to the public. The gunman, who was a men’s rights attorney, had been been stalking Salas online and had access to her private information.
“In my case, the monster knew where I lived and what church we attended and had a complete dossier on me and my family. At the moment, there is nothing we can do to stop it, and that is unacceptable,” Salas said. “My son’s death cannot be in vain, which is why I am begging those in power to do something to help my brothers and sisters on the bench.”
